Philanthropy
Our mission is to serve the community through charitable and educational programs
Eta Gamma's Chapter Philanthropy
As children of immigrant parents, some of us being immigrants, and being supporters of immigrant rights, our chapter decided to establish Border Angels our chapter philanthropy. Border Angel's dedication to promoting social justice, supporting immigrant communities, and raising awareness about immigration issues resonated deeply with our chapter's values. By partnering with Border Angels, we aim to make a tangible difference, amplify the voices of marginalized individuals, and foster positive change in our community. We promise to offer our unwavering commitment to advocate for migrant rights and provide humanitarian aid along the San Diego-Mexico border.
LTA became an official collegiate partner of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 2010. The hospital’s founder, Danny Thomas, had a vision that “no child should die in the dawn of life”, and opened the doors to St. Jude with the intention that no child should be denied cancer treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. We are the first and only Latino Greek organization to commit to the hospital and support its goals to fight and bring awareness to childhood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Affiliates
Eta Gamma Chapter continues to make efforts to advance communities in the San Diego area by regularly participating in community service activities. Some of the organizations we have worked with include:
BLACK LIVES MATTER
Lambda Theta Alpha stands in firm solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We help uplift the voices of those who have been and continue to be hurt and silenced. Efforts include raising money from our annual 1.975 Run to support 5 Black-led organizations, providing educational resources, and distributing direct action grants.
Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation
The LTA Foundation was established in 2015 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to educational, charitable, and humanitarian services. We provide scholarships for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, and also offers grants for educational programming. Our non-profit also provides Disaster and COVID-19 Support and Relief funding for families.
Multicultural Greek Council
With our Greek Council, we have the opportunity to participate in various community service activities that are hosted by other Sorority/Fraternity organizations. In addition, MGC hosts an annual "Greeksgiving" to donate sandwiches to a local food bank.
Raza Resource Centro
The purpose of the Raza Resource Centro is to emphasize and foster the access, retention, and graduation of Chicanx-Latinx students as well as create strong connections with our surrounding community. Eta Gamma hosts community service events and political/social/cultural workshops with Raza.
Roger's Community Garden - UCSD
Roger's Garden is a non-profit food garden that donates fresh produce to the UCSD Triton Food Pantry. Requiring volunteer labor to effectively function, our chapter continually participates in helping to dig, plant, water, and harvest crops in the garden.
